AIG Raises the Standard in Women's Golf
The AIG Women's Open champions women's golf with historic prizes and initiatives that push the sport forward.
Emmy Award-winning NBC Sports broadcaster Jimmy Roberts explores how AIG, led by Chairman & CEO Peter Zaffino, has worked with The R&A to elevate professional women’s golf through its sponsorship of the AIG Women’s Open.
Dating back to 1976, the Championship navigated years of slow progress, marked by challenges from competing on lesser-known courses to offering prize money far below that of the men’s title championship. Everything changed in 2019 when AIG became the Championship’s title sponsor, a partner committed to elevating the player experience, ultimately tripling the prize money and advocating for play on iconic courses traditionally in rotation for the men’s championship, including St Andrews, Muirfield and Royal Troon.
The AIG Women’s Open now attracts players from over 25 countries, making it one of the most internationally diverse fields in women’s sports. In 2024, the AIG Women’s Open was honored with the LPGA’s Gold Driver Award for Best Player Experience.
