The AIG Women’s Open represents our unwavering commitment to creating new opportunities for the world’s best professional women golfers. 

Since becoming the Championship’s title sponsor in 2019, AIG has partnered with the R&A to raise the profile of the game and its players, tripling the prize money, securing iconic venues and elevating the player experience. In 2024, our efforts to transform the AIG Women’s Open into the leading Major in women’s golf were recognized with the LPGA’s Gold Drive Award for Best Player Experience.

  • AIG hosts the 48th AIG Women’s Open Championship at historic St Andrews, the birthplace of golf

  • Lydia Ko wins the 2024 AIG Women’s Open Championship

2023

  • Peter Zaffino announces the extension of both the AIG Women’s Open partnership through 2030, as well as the AIG ambassador contract with golfer Georgia Hall through 2027

  • AIG increases the Championship’s purse size to $9M, a 23% YoY increase

  • AIG hosts the first AIG Women’s Leadership Forum program during the week of the Championship, bringing rising women leaders in insurance together for career development and networking activities

  • Lilia Vu wins the 2023 AIG Women’s Open Championship

2022

  • AIG increases the Championship’s purse size to $7.3M, a 26% YoY increase

  • Ashleigh Buhai wins the 2022 AIG Women’s Open Championship

2021

  • AIG Ambassadors are announced, including the sponsorship of golfer Georgia Hall

  • During unprecedented times, AIG responsibly hosted the newly renamed AIG Women’s Open at Royal Troon Golf Club in Scotland, allowing athletes to safely compete in the Championship

  • AIG and The R&A extend the AIG Women’s Open partnership through 2025

  • Sophia Popov wins the 2020 AIG Women’s Open Championship

2019

  • For the first time, AIG hosts the 43rd Women’s British Open at Woburn Golf Club

  • AIG asserts its pledge to women in sports and business and reiterates commitment to diversity and inclusivity

  • Hinako Shibuno wins the 2019 AIG Women’s British Open Championship
